Junior Hurling
Our u16.5 were out in the first round of the Munster Junior hurling championship last wednesday against Kinsale secondary school. Both sides meant business from the thrown in and this game ebbed and flowed from end to end with Scoil Ruain leading by 5 points at half time on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-7. Some nice scores from Mikey O’Shea and Louie Doyle was the main difference between the sides in the opening half.
Kinsale put in a huge effort at the start of the second half and were level after 15 minutes. Kinsale continued their dominance and drove into a 6 point lead with 9 minutes left. It looked like this was not going to be Scoil Ruain’s day as they piled on the pressure but shot after shot was saved by the excellent Kinsale goalkeeper. Eventually Scoil Ruain got the break they needed when Daragh Fitzgerald’s speculative lob ended up in the Kinsale net. This was quickly followed by a beautiful piece of skill by Mikey O’Shea rounding two defenders and finishing to the net. This deflated Kinsale and the Killenaule lads put a few more points on the scoreboard to run out eventual winners on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-13.
